ESS Clinic

Skin Surgery

ESS Clinic provides a minor surgical service for patients who wish to have benign (non-cancerous) lesions removed. Most commonly, these lesions are skin tags, warty lesions, cysts or moles.

In order for the correct procedure to be recommended, it is important for you to have an accurate diagnosis of the lesion being removed. For any surgical procedure we undertake at the clinic, an initial assessment by a dermatologist is performed. During this assessment, a medical history is taken, the lesion is examined and a diagnosis made. The options of treatment can then be discussed so that you are aware of the risks and benefits of all the surgical treatments available

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the surgery painful?

All surgical procedures are performed under local anaesthetic, which numbs the area that is being treated. The local anaesthetic can sting for about one to two minutes but then the procedure should be pain-free.

Who will perform my surgery?

All procedures are performed by experienced doctors who have had extensive training in Dermatology and skin surgery. Please go to the Team  page of the website for further details about the doctors working at ESS Clinic.

How quickly can I return to work?

In most cases, you can return to work immediately. Most lesions will have a dressing applied prior to you leaving the clinic that will need to be in place for 24 hours post surgery.

Will my lesion be analysed once it has been removed?

For all minor surgery procedures (except skin tags), it is essential that the lesion removed is sent for histological examination. This involves the lesion being sent to a histopathologist who will examine the lesion under a microscope. A written report will be provided to the clinic and you will be informed of the results of your procedure within a few weeks.

Can I have more than one lesion removed at a time?

Usually, the maximum number of lesions that can be removed in one treatment session, is two. However, if you require more than two lesions to be removed in one surgical appointment, please discuss this with the doctor during your initial consultation. Exception to this is skin tags, where several can be removed at one time.

How will I know how to look after my wound?

Once you have had your surgical procedure, you will be provided with verbal and written advice on how to take care of your wound. If you have had stitches, a follow up appointment will be booked for you to have these removed at the clinic.
